Import from any website
Open the built-in browser, find a recipe, and select “Import Recipe”. No pop-up ads or drama. Set up your favorite recipe sites in settings so they are just one tap away.
All your recipes on your device. Get cooking.
A favorite website recipe. A cookbook page. Grandma’s recipe card. SimmerSteps tidies it up and saves it on your device, ready to search, scale, shop for and share. No account. No subscription. No cloud required.
Coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.
Screenshots buried in your camera roll. Bookmarks to pages that vanished. Index cards stained with butter and, someday, lost. SimmerSteps gathers them into one beautiful, searchable collection that works in the kitchen, even with flour on your hands and no signal.
Everything you need
Open the built-in browser, find a recipe, and select “Import Recipe”. No pop-up ads or drama. Set up your favorite recipe sites in settings so they are just one tap away.
Photograph a recipe card, cookbook page or printout. SimmerSteps reads the text right on your device and sorts it into title, servings, times, ingredients, steps and notes. Recipe spread over two pages? Add more photos.
After importing a recipe, compare the imported results with the original recipe. Make any edits you would like. Reorder ingredients and steps, change units, add your own notes and tags. You have the power.
Cooking for two instead of eight? Scale from ¼× to 3×, or type any amount like 2 ½. Ingredient amounts and servings update instantly. You can use that scaled recipe just once or save the scaled version. You can change it to a different scale at any time.
Add a recipe’s ingredients to your list in one tap, uncheck what you already have, and SimmerSteps sorts the rest by store aisle: produce, meat & fish, dairy, bakery, pantry, frozen and more. Use the list in the app while you shop or share the list with whoever is shopping.
Keep as many named grocery lists as you need, like one for the supermarket and one for the farmers’ market. Set rules to send ingredients from certain aisles, such as produce, to the list you want, and move items between lists any time.
Group recipes into meals, like a main, a side and a salad, and add a whole meal to your grocery list in one tap. Put recipes and meals on a weekly meal plan, then pick the days you’re shopping for and make one grocery list for all of them.
Search by recipe name, ingredient or tag. Filter by tags (like “Dinner” or “Vegan”) and sort by name or recently added. You can create as many custom tags as you like.
Mark what recipes you’ve used before versus which ones are on the “to do” list. No longer will you retain a recipe to try only to have it get buried in bookmarks or a crumbled up piece of paper.
Shake your device and SimmerSteps picks a recipe at random. Narrow the pool first with search and filters, like “Dinner + Quick,” and let fate settle the dinner debate.
Send a recipe as a PDF to anyone, print it, or share it with another SimmerSteps user as a file they can add to their own collection in one tap.
Save every recipe and photo to a single file and tuck it in Google Drive, iCloud or email. Lose or upgrade your device? Restore everything on the new one.
Show any recipe’s amounts as originally written, in metric or in imperial. See calories, protein, carbs and fat per serving when they’re available, and choose a larger text size for the ingredients, steps and notes.
Settings offers options to keep the screen awake while you cook, so it never goes dark mid-step. Choose from Light and Dark modes or, optionally, set it to match the mode of your device.

No. The feature which attempts to read a recipe from a photo on your device is read using Apple Vision on iPhone and iPad, and Google ML Kit on Android. Your recipe photos never leave your device.
Yes. All your recipes live on your device. You only need an internet connection to search for recipes on the internet.
Very good in many cases, but results will vary based on how the recipe is formatted, how well-lit the photo is and other factors. Once imported, you can review the information and compare it to the original photo. Then make any edits that were possibly incorrect or incomplete before saving the recipe to your collection.
SimmerSteps’s free version only limits the number of recipes you can store, compared to the paid version. Therefore, you can try this feature out for yourself before purchasing the app.
Usually your recipes move with you when you set up a new device from a backup or transfer. For extra safety, or when switching between iPhone or iPad and Android (or vice versa), use the back up feature within SimmerSteps to back up your recipes to a single file and share it to a location other than your device (e-mail, Google Drive, etc.). On the new device, use SimmerSteps’s restore feature to import that backup file.
Yes. The app allows you to share any recipe from your collection as a PDF or print it. If they have the SimmerSteps app, you can easily share it with that person as a SimmerSteps file, allowing them to import your recipe with a single tap.
